Simple and easy methods to prevent environment pollution-voracious blog reader

Here are some of my suggestions to avoid polluting the environment by going in for natural products:

* Plastics are dangerous. Where ever possible please use cotton bags. Avoid plastic bags. Always have the habit of carrying cotton bags with you. I always tell the shop keepers that I have bought my bag along.

* Go in for coir foot rests for your doorsteps and for cotton ones for bedroom etc.

* As much as possible buy cotton clothing. Kadhi Gramodhya Bhavan is a good place to start.

* The younger generation can make use of the cycle to make small errands. Use a dynamo instead of the battery-type lights.

* Use cotton ropes for putting the clothes out for drying. I agree that nylon ones last longer. But cotton ropes' production does not pollute the environment.

* Please switch off an appliance completely. For example, switch off the main switch of the TV. Leaving it ON does consume power. Though the consumption is small, small droplets of water form a big cloud. Imagine each and every household leaving their TV ON (not to mention the video/DVD players attached to the TV). Lot of power would be consumed then. Unwanted power consumption means wasting the power produced. On the same lines, switch off the lights before retiring to bed at night. I know quite a few people who have the habit of reading a book/magazine and doze off. Unwanted power consumption.

* If one wants to really bring down power consumption, one can go in for "kallore" and "ammi kal". And the food tastes a lot better than the electric mixies and grinders.

Hey Partner :)
Lovely topic !

Lemme think of some more ways of saving resources.
I always like to use paper bags..they look ethnic too.
Recycling water should be given a lot of importance. There was a time when my mom used to save all the water in which vegetables were washed and used it for watering the plants in the adjoining balcony..she had a mini herbal garden there.
will put another comment :)
nice topic Pangalee...proud of you :)
Have a great week !

wow
finally u r learning some characters of Hindi :)

@vbr....
using a reusable bag instead of a disposable plastic one definitely helps. but using cotton/jute instead of synthetic fibers might not be a good idea... simply because to grow cotton you chop down trees.. use pesticides /chemical fertilizers... jute and paper processing itself releases a lot of pollutants in the environment.

yes Ankur..I agree...I feel shops that do not have bags (like costco) in the US makes sense..there is better recyling there.
Another this is to avoid plastic bags and wrap things in paper.

//

Thats a great idea.

Paper bags are good as long as they are recycled.

@ Ankur

One need not chop down trees. There are enough cotton trees at our disposal. Also, at the rate of deforestration, planting new trees (cotton) wouldn't be a bad idea.

Chemicals will come into play anyway; whether its plastic bags or cotton bags. But in the case of cotton bags, the chemicals used are less comparatively.

Do you prefer your hot food wrapped in a plastic cover or in a banana leaf? Plastic additionally has the danger of melting and getting mixed with food. Banana trees are aplenty. They grow rapidly too.

you r coming back to the same thing.. how will it help you? people thought petrol from corn will help the environment.. but look at what havoc it has created in the corn prices and soil erosion.

@vbr
1) 99% of the world's cotton comes from plants and not trees... and you really have to visit gujarat or the nile basin to understand how much does this cultivation harms...
over irrigation in these hot dry lands has caused soil salination.. making the soil unfit for everything...
then because of ballworms.. a lot of pesticides r getting used.. (infact cotton accounts for majority of the pesticides consumed by india.

the list is unending.

hmm..I understand that paper manufacturing lead to major deforestation. But that did not stop paper production or going to in the future. So, I feel reusing paper and paper bags would def help in a major way.
My mother uses the butter paper in which bread comes wrapped, for packing sandwiches and we use tote bags made of paper to carry stuff.
But since 'husk' is another key raw material in paper production, wood consumption has greatly been slashed.
btw..what is ur suggestion for an alternate for cotton ?

Very good thoughts you have shared, i agreed.

//Go in for coir foot rests for your doorsteps// we used this sometimes back, but when this foot rest becomes our dog's fav game to make it pieces, we stopped buying it. Ok hereafter we change to it.

//Use a dynamo// that was a time we rotate the standing cycle's wheel and see light blow.

Over wasting of electricity must be watched, it increases the warming of global.

Yes, those were lovely days when we used to play with the bicycles that way.

@ Ankur

Nice points. Can you also please throw light on pollution due to plastic bags production and cotton bags' production on a comparative scale? As Sree asks the pertinent question "What could be the alternate for Cotton"?

Hi Curious,

First of all: your paintings are awesome.

Yes, you are right. I too got strange looks initially when I told them I have my own bag. [I like "jolna pai" a lot and carry 2 of them with me usually :)]. But on explaining to them the reason behind the use of such bags, they understood my point.

I have also seen people using a plastic bag for carrying just a single pack of chips packet and that too with their house just round the corner.

Wow, a garden with filtered water. That sure is a great idea.

This stuck my mind too:

If for the pillayar chathurthi [Ganesh chathurthi] celebrations, a pillyar [Ganesha] was made just out of pure clay and devoid of any paints, pollution can be avoided too.

There are quite a good number of vendors who offer this.

I've always liked things like sand clocks, lava lamps, and the like to well-wishing of just fritter away space staring at it as a form of catharsis. In a route, it helps me with meditation, to relieve emphasis and well-grounded fantasize about nothing. That's why since I was a kid, a substitute alternatively of dolls and cars I've in any case sedate more of such pieces like sand clocks, lava lamps, harmonious boxes etc. So I was most charmed when I found the 2-Laser + LED Inconsiderable Presentation Laser Outstrip Gyroscope with Music Effects from DealtoWorld.com protection the Toys section. It's like a harmonious belt, a spinning top, and a berate verify all rolled into one. Which is great relaxation! The gyroscope transfer outing for in the air a minute. The laser slight show with accompanying music makes this gyroscope a measure unique fiddle with that my friends get also been most amused with.

My dogs are also pretty curious around the laser gyroscope I got from DealtoWorld.com. They always attend the gyroscope as it spins, although at earliest they kept barking at the laser light show, and also because it produces music. But after they got used it, they've stopped barking but due keep following the gyroscope whenever I start spinning it. Kids are also pretty amused alongside it. On occasion it's proper to possess pleasing toys on all sides the ancestry so that you can pull out the bit of frippery trifle with on while the kids are being amused or playing with it while you live provide for scoff or sock changed. The gyroscope is one such trinket with this purpose.

The gyroscope I bought from DealtoWorld.com has a dragon as a intent plot on it, and produces a gegenschein accompany with red, dispirited, and unskilled colours. Nick a look at the pictures I've uploaded of the gyroscope with laser luminosity show. The music produced from the gyroscope is not that enormous but facts plenty to consider any redone visitor to the house. The gyroscope is red and raven, making it look particular coolth, and slightly arrogant with that dragon imprint.

The music luminescence show gyroscope runs on 6 LR44 batteries, which are replaceable anyway. I've also utilized this gyroscope to surprise my girlfriend during our anniversary celebration. I did the cheesy terror of decorating the hostelry elbow-room with roses and when I led her in, I started up the gyroscope as correctly so that the laser light expose produces a ideal effect. I also had some battery operated candles so all the sunrise effects created a rather mawkish atmosphere. She loved it, not later than the going, to my relief. I also bought the candles from DealtoWorld.com. These days it seems to be my oversight shopping placement for all gifts and ideas in compensation emotional occasions.

Since Christmas is coming, this laser radiance upstage gyroscope can possibly be a talented Christmas gift for the toddler or methodical the favoured! Alternatively, the gyroscope can altogether be a polite reckoning to the usual Christmas decorations. I can take it as given placing it adjoining the Christmas tree and peradventure spinning it when guests hit town in the house. Looks like DealtoWorld.com is getting my function still again!
