No one can be a champ in every field..All speeches by ministers are written by professionals...they dont write it themselves..

1) Should be a graduate (atleast)
2) The portfolio provided should align with the person's graduation/work experience if any. (Typically the agricultural ministry should be given to a person with B.Sc Agri or a veteran skilled in agriculture.)
3)Should have never been imprisoned on criminal offences.
4)Should have assets less than a certain cut off value
5)Should provide certificates, IT proofs, bank statements, asset docs etc at the time of nomination. A spl screening/vetting should be done on them prior to making them eligible to contest in the elections.

When you sit up to ponder over what can make a good politician, you exhibit some sort of interest/concern in the process- so I think people like that, who are also inclined towards politics (you? ;-) should take it up.

Each party should commit to get the mix slowly in..but when will it happen..at least in the next two decades..hope so

usually it does... but again its more like a gut feeling... u cannot enact a law which does the selection for u.

actually the single biggest trouble he faces is getting the funds for the election campaign... the government salaries does not provide any support and those who give u money expect favors... and that is undoing all our honesty in democracy

exactly... all we need is a system where the honest guy can survive... one does not has to make compromises just to exist... and slowly honesty will again resurface... unfortunately today's political environment is everything but this.

How does one know whether a person will represent the people well? How can we take his/her's words? I am sure pro to the above idea and I am thinking only on further lines.

Can one then say that, "to represent well" comes with experience which in turn comes from selfless service?

Even if a good person becomes a politician, he/she has to withstand pressure from both the sides viz. "to hold on to his virtues" and "moving as friendly as possible with the other senior corrupt politicians". A Government will not have honest politicians over night, but will have ones as time passes. But there has to be a start somewhere by someone. A nouveau honest politician has to bear these difficulties till the Government becomes clean.

why.. what if he belonged to one of the extremists group (eg landless tiller in bihar) and he had to fight to get his justice... there were many of such individuals we are praised even centuries later.
