An Excerpt

Ravi in his post about mythological characters had invited readers to share their views on the ones that interest them.
I want to share some excerpts from the comment section of his post. I found r.Prabhu's version of the story I narrated ,very interesting.
I apologise to readers who do not know Tamil. As I am forwarding it from another page I am not taking the liberty of changing it...excuse me , please.

This was my comment to Ravi's post -

"My all time fav is Karna..I have great admiration for him.
enga paati oru kadhai solluvaanga...
oru murai Dhuriyodhananum avanga wifeum dhaanam seidhu kondu irundhaangalaam...kaathala aarambicha dhaanam raathiri aagiyum mudiyalaiyaam....appo Karnan vandhu paathuttu..."what is going on ?" nnu kettaaraam..dhuriyodhanan was very tired and said "enatha seiyaradhu....innum niraiya irukku dhaanam thara..." .
Karnan had a hearty laugh and said...
"dhaanam pannara murai idhudhaana?..ippo paar" and he said that he'd take over :)
Makkal munnaadi vandhu
"Inga paarunga...Yaarukku enna venumo eduthu kondu ponga" nnu sonnaaraam :)
U can imagine what happened next..
So edhavadhu velaiya medhuva seidhukondu irundha my grandma used to say this story :)

@Sree
The story is told a bit differently though, the Dhaanam story.
by r.prabhu

R.prabhu sir..

Adha enga paati thaniya kadhaiya sonnadhu illa...thittum podhu eduthu viduvaanga..so I cld have lost some points. :)

@Sree
The story goes like this. Once Krishna was talking to the Pandavas in praise of Karnan, saying that "Karnanai pol yarum dhaanam, dharman seyya mudiyathu, Karnan Dhana Dharmathil Sirandhavan". On hearing that the Pandavas did not like Krishna supporting Karnan and argued with him saying that the eldest of the Pandavas, Yudhistra, was called as Dharmar, not only because of his righteousness, but also for the benefactoring attitude.

Krishna challenged that he can prove Karnan to be more mature and Dhanathil Sirandhavan endru. So he held a competition between the Pandavas and Karnan. The competition was that 2 mountains of gold and silver would be given to both of them and whoever donates the most in a single day, will be termed as "Dhaanathil Sirandhavan".

So on the first day the Pandavas started out. As they dug the mountain and started donating, the mountains began growing as the Pandavas dug it. And there was a long queue to be fed with the donations. They went on until dusk but the mountains kept on growing, and atlast they still had about half of the queue left. Satisfied that they have donate about half of the world world's population, they went to rest. Thinking that Karnan is a single person and he could not achieve this feat that was done by the five mighty persons.

Then the next day Krishna told Karnan that he has to donate as much as he can to as many people in this world. Immediately Karnan fell at Krishna's feet and told "Parandhama, neeyae ulagam, neeyae Paramporul. Ulagathil anaithum neeyae, adhanaal ulagam uyiyum poruttu indha malaigalai unakkae dhaanamaga kodukiraen". Krishna was so pleased at the Karnan's act and praised him and later after Karnan went, he looked at the Pandavas, but they bent down their heads in shame.

And that proved that Karnan was Dhaana, Dharmathil Sirandhavan.

But in the whole of Mahabharata I love the character of Karnan. How many deceptions MadhuSudhana & Arjuna do to kill the greatest warrior Karnan
Karnan is a highly complexed character without much worth I love Karna for what he is. I saw the movie “Karnan”, which was acted by the great & late Sivaji Ganesan. Good post..

Sree please translate at least what Karna said to Krishna in English. I have never heard or read this story from Mahabharat so I am curious to know it.

How are u?
Yes ! I'll defenitely do it :)
As it is I felt bad that I put this without translation.
By this evening , I'll either add to the post or put it here :)
Have a great week, Prerna :)

Just to make sure that you get the meaning in time :)

Thanks Sree! Well, Paramporul means Omnipresent Being. Let me translate the whole para for you. "Lord of Vaigundham, You are the world, You are the Omnipresent Being, You are everything in this world. So, for the benefit and salvation of this world, I donate these mountains to you"

Parandhamam means Vaigundham and Parandhaman means Lord of Vaigundham.
Uyiyum - Salvation, Benefit
Dhaanam - donation

// naan inneram poetries ezhudhittu iruppen... //

I really appreciate this spirit. It just reminds me of a saying by Avaiyar "Chitiramum Kai Pazhakkam, Senthamizhum Vaai Pazhakkam...". We can bring everything into practice, except friendship, generosity and mercy which come to a person by birth. Will post the complete poem and its meaning in the upcoming posts. Hope to see some good poetries from you soon :)

Hello Prabhu..
It is so very kind of you.
I cant thank you enough.

Your translation was perfect.
I cld not get the exact word in
English for 'Paramporul'..'Omnipresent'
..what a perfect word !!

"Chitiramum Kai Pazhakkam, Senthamizhum Vaai Pazhakkam..."
yes...apart from the inborn qualities
mentioned by you any art is a matter
of practice....but there are ppl like u
who have an inate talent for some arts..
and u have a flair for languages.

//Hope to see some good poetries from you soon :) //

enna sree mam.. :) eppadi ethavadhu solli neeinga en comment a persua poduringa. vaikuringa :) mm

first about karna he is a nice character portrayed as "good villain" kind of analogy. :) of-course no argument he is @his best.

In the contest he simply applied law of associative to solve and win the race :) namma vysar ellam appovey peri peri theorem a simple aa solli erukaru. :) m

Law of Associative

A = B , B = C then C = A

Karna =>(implied ) Mountain of Gold
Krisha => (implied ) param porul
Porul => (approz )Mountain of Gold for fellow human being
and goes on and on.. :)

coming to the next part .. of dharmer story. as expected after his end of last days dharmer went to sooirgham he started getting hungry feeling. Every body surprised about dharmas feeling. how come a person get into sooirgam having hungry feeling. its so funny.

one final day he couldn;t control his feeling and went to krishna and said "please solve the problem"

as usual smiling krishna poured some quantum of smile and said just take ur "all katti viral" "pointing finger" and lick it once.

surprisingly his hungry feeling vanished and curious dharamer whats happening whats special with my freaking fingers ? why is this ?

Mr. ParamPorul explained. hold on Mr.Dharma -> you had done all kind of grt8 things when ur in human form, gave good amount of dhanams etc etc. but u haven't given food dhama so far. once for a hungry person u had pointed ur all katti viral saying there is the food take it. That saved your life now .

eppadi namma krishnar super aa oru hook pootara. mmm:)

yes..its abt the fact that Karnan tops all when it comes to the art of giving :)
Krishna himself is always in praise of Karna...though he did everything in his power to weaken Karna..probably felt an affinity bcos he is also a son of Kunti.

//i love mahabharat... the only reason being that its like the modern day... people commit sins... and then they glorify it... (instead of hiding it) //

u and ur observations :))
So I guess u feel hiding is ok .
