Energy and Persistence Conquer all things-B.Franklin

Just look at the complete concave crater !
How persistent the wind should be !
It reminds me of this quotation by Calvin Coolidge

"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

The slogan “Press On” has solved and

always will solve the problems of the human race."

Note: This is a rock in Horsley Hills which is situated in the Southern part AP.
A place with wonderful climate and the highlight is there is no other entertainment
except nature walks and bird watching

Hello Pria..
My dad and I went around looking for birds and found a few beautiful ones....but we were so busy trying to get their names that we did'nt take any snap :(
but wild hens were there everywhere and another common one is the 'patridges'.
Will try to get some pic in my next visit :)

isn't persistence a second word for nagging?

Sree's Views said...

Hey Ankur,

isn't persistence a second word for nagging? //

yes..but the applicability is selective.
It seems like nagging to the ones who shirk responsibility :P

There is a couplet by a poet from the Bhakti era who said-

Karat karat abhyas ke jadmati hoat sujan,
rasri awat jat se sil par parat nishan.

[The rope that rubs against the rock in a well leaves a mark on the rock, and likewise even an idiot will find wisdom with practice and perseverance.]

Very good post Sree.

We have a similar one in Tamil
'Erumbu oora kallum theyum'

[A rock can be eroded by a steady traffic of ants ]

Thanks, Prerna :)

hi sri,

Let me add a quote from our thiruvalluvar thaatha (oh he is also thiru?! could be I am his reincarnation! lol)

"Oozhayum uppakkam kaanbar uzhaivindri thaazh aatrubavar"

(bear with any typo error in the above couplet)

meaning, one can overcome fate if she/he works hard with perseverance.

Although I agree with second half of this couplet, I can't accept the first half wherein Thiruvalluvar endorses fate.

A good post sri.

But the meaning is very good.

Although I agree with second half of this couplet, I can't accept the first half wherein Thiruvalluvar endorses fate.//
I think u r misinterpretting what he is trying to say. He is not endorsing fate , I think he means "any obstacles can be overcome".
I belive so. I feel with perserverance , even the strongest of tide against us can be won over .

A good post sri. //
thank u :)

I could not find in net. I extracted from my memory and wrote, if I can get hold of mykural book I can point it out. It could be in Oozh vinai or vida muyrarchi kind of stuff.

//I think u r misinterpretting what he is trying to say.//

I dont think so. Catch hold of the kural in tamil, explore and come back if you still believe so.
